Beast On Board Air Bracket (2016+ Tacoma): install guide
Professional installation is recommended if you are not comfortable with automotive wiring. Tools: 10 mm wrench, 10 mm socket, ratchet, Phillips screwdriver, pliers, lighter or heat gun, wire cutter and crimper. Time: 2 to 4 hours.
- Unbox the Beast compressor and the bracket, and lay out the tools.
- With the engine cool, open the hood and remove the factory horn near the airbox on the passenger side (unclip the plug, remove the 10 mm bolt).
- Flatten the tip of the horn bracket or trim it off. Set the horn aside to reinstall later.
- Remove the 10 mm bolt that holds the brake lines to the frame. Keep it, it holds the bracket.
- Loosely fit the support bracket with the Allen screw, washer and locking nut. Do not mount the compressor yet.
- Set the bracket over the factory studs, with the support bracket against the frame behind the brake line bracket. Mark the support bracket’s bolt position, lift the bracket out and tighten the support bracket at the mark.
- Remove the Beast’s base plate. Keep its nuts and bolts.
- Bolt the Beast to the bracket with those factory bolts.
- Lower the Beast and bracket into the bay, with the support bracket in place.
- Check the Beast touches nothing in the bay. Fit the three nylon nuts on the factory studs (washers only on the two studs by the airbox). Reinstall the horn and its harness clip.
- Route the battery wires along the factory harness with zip ties. Where you want the fuse, cut the positive wire and its clamp off. Keep the spare wire.
- Crimp a terminal on the cut positive wire, heat shrink it and fit the fuse. Cut spare wire to reach from the fuse to the battery positive, crimp terminals on both ends and heat shrink.
- Cut the clamp off the negative wire, crimp a terminal and fix it to the battery ground. Connect the positive to the battery positive.
- Reinstall the airbox. Store the air hose behind the compressor, clear of the piston housings at each end. To air up, flip the switch on the compressor.
Optional: in-cabin switch
- Disconnect the positive wire at the battery. Before the fuse, cut the compressor’s positive wire, crimp and heat shrink terminals on both cut ends and connect them to the relay. Zip tie the relay to the harness on the firewall.
- Connect the supplied harness to the relay and run it into the cabin through the factory firewall grommet (a small hole in the rubber).
- In the cabin, take out the small switch panel with the blank, fit the compressor switch, and connect the harness. Connect a switched positive from the fuse box with the supplied fuse adapter, and the supplied ground. Test it, then refit the panel.
